Thought a Day About Poetry II

These things are on my mind:

–David Walker on The transparent lyric—“a poem whose rhetoric establishes its own incompleteness, it is present not as completed discourse but as a structure that invited the reader to projects (self) into its world…”
–critical interpretation becomes empowered as to sway the artist
–when poets don’t speak for themselves critics rush to take their place
–Perloff—“theory is never more than the extension of practice.”
–creation of a subject by the particular discourses in which one functions; language is prior to experience
–reading My Life is to become aware of the ‘rights of the signifier’
